Tammy Plaxico, Pilates Instructor
Tammy’s background in movement arts began with undergraduate and graduate degrees in dance from the University of Iowa (1994, 1998). In the years following, she began to focus on Pilates work as a compliment to dance training and became certified in Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, Barrels, and Injury and Special Populations. She began and developed BodyMind Balance Pilates Studio, Wocester, MA, a studio dedicated to the integrity of Pilate’s method (1999-2005).
After relocating to Westerville, OH in 2003, Tammy implemented the Pilates mat and reformer program into the OSU Dance Department and began teaching at Otterbein University in the Sport and Health Sciences and Theater Arts and Dance Departments. During her 18 year tenure, she taught Pilates, yoga, ballet, modern, jazz and tap, and choreographed for multiple annual dance department concerts and a musical theater production. From 2004-2019 she joined the faculty at Ballet Met working with creative movement through pre-professional dancers. In 2010 she completed her 200 hour yoga training through Shiva Shakti in Columbus.
As a life-long learner, she returned to education and completed a B.A. in Sports Medicine at Otterbein University in 2021. She is now a certified Athletic Trainer working in the areas of traditional sports medicine and in industrial sports medicine.
Tammy is passionate about teaching and loves integrating her knowledge and experience to assist others. She values each individual client relationship and strives to work with each one to establish pain-free, efficient, and functional movement so they can enjoy both daily living and movement activities they are passionate about.
Tammy resides in Westerville with her husband and is enjoying the lives of their 2 adult married children and 2 college-aged children. She enjoys learning, teaching, traveling, and driving thousands of miles each season on her Harley.
